Duties Description This position will require travel to provide services to all locations within Region 6. A Trades Generalist performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. The incumbent will use the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft or crafts to which assigned. Although the incumbent will be expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a craftsperson, a Trades Generalist may supervise a maintenance staff in making assignments, giving instructions, and observing and inspecting work performed to ensure that instructions have been followed, and that the quality of the work is satisfactory.
The incumbent will be required to perform aerial work. This may require them to obtain (and hold) one or more NYSDOT aerial lift certifications. The certifications are Aerial Lift Device (truck mounted), Aerial Lift B3 (MEWP), Aerial Lift B1 (MEWP), Aerial Lift A3 (MEWP), and Aerial Lift-Restricted (sign truck).
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by the completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
