Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2.
Section 70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Supervising Computer Operator.
Section 52.6 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 eligible list may be considered for appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have:
• Previous experience supporting PCs and laptops in a network environment utilizing the Windows Desktop Server Operating System.
• The willingness and aptitude to learn quickly.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $70,566 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking applicants for an Information Technology Specialist 2 position in the New York State Museum (NYSM). The NYSM serves the lifelong educational needs of New Yorkers and visitors through its collections, exhibitions, scholarship, programs, media and publications in science, history, anthropology and art. The incumbent of this position will perform installation and troubleshooting support for computer hardware and software. Other duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Respond to inquiries for computer-related problems via phone, remote access or visits to staff desks in-person;
• Assist staff to analyze and resolve computer related problems;
• Complete computer work order requests for software, equipment, new employees, transfers and staff moves, including identifying and copying user data from old to new computers;
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with Information Technology (IT) units and program office staff;
• Work with the Helpdesk and other Department IT technical units to identify and resolve hardware, software and application issues;
• Deliver new computer equipment and collect old equipment to be reassigned or recycled;
• Move computer equipment for staff and office moves;
• Run anti-virus, spyware detection and removal and data recovery software on staff computers;
• Perform the unpacking, configuration/setup and delivery/deployment of new computer equipment, as well as coordinate with office staff receiving new computers;
• Unpack various types of computer equipment and assemble/configure items for setup and delivery;
• Install and configure software and upgrades according to NYSED standards from NYSED servers and supplied images;
• Troubleshoot computer related hardware problems;
• Analyze office computer needs and make recommendations to NYSED managers on how to deploy or redeploy equipment in the most efficient manner; and
• Evaluate new computer related hardware and software and maintain knowledge for set-up.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit.
