Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Secretary 2.

Section 70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must also be able to pass a typing proficiency exam.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Secretary 2 eligible list may be considered for appointment.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Secretary 2 position in the Office of Student Support Services. This Office promotes school improvement by focusing on social and emotional development and learning through programs, services and activities related to Pupil Personnel Services, School and Student Health, Expanded Learning Opportunities, Safe Schools and Alternative Education. This Office also oversees the Office of Child Nutrition and the Office of Early Learning. Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner, the incumbent of this position will perform a variety of duties including establishing office procedures, designing and maintaining office filing systems, resolving day-to-day operational challenges, coordinating flow of information and acting as liaison to staff. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage the calendar for the Assistant Commissioner and senior managers, which involves scheduling many high priority meetings and rescheduling on short notice;
• Make travel arrangements and prepare expense reports for the Assistant Commissioner;
• Review all travel and procurement requests for Assistant Commissioner approval;
• Serve as a team leader within the Office of Student Support Services, Office of Child Nutrition and Office of Early Learning, including establishing procedures and communication protocols;
• Provide technical assistance to callers and refer complex issues to appropriate staff;
• Assign, track and ensure timely responses to requests for information and assignments;
• Prepare letters, documents and reports, including formatting, proofreading, and distributing;
• Review incoming correspondence and reports, gather background information, and draft responses, including the preparation of charts and reports, as appropriate;
• Prepare meeting minutes per established protocols;
• Prepare presentations for Regents meetings and other public forums; and
• Supervise and assign workflow to lower-level staff.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $61,300 based on annual performance advances.
