Duties Description The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Principal Psychologist, G-27, position within the Division of State Operated Children’s and Adult Services, Clinical Oversight and Development Unit. Under the direction of the statewide Director of Psychology (Chief Psychologist), the Principal Psychologist will serve as the statewide Assistant Director of Psychology and provide policy and practice guidance and direction to psychologists at OMH state-operated facilities and programs across New York State.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide training, consultation, technical assistance, and mentoring to psychologists across the state through a combination of in-person site visits and remote technology.
• Represent the psychology discipline, as a subject matter expert, in OMH operational and policy discussions/decisions.
• Participate on the OMH Clinical Cabinet, collaborating with the statewide leaders of the other professional disciplines (Psychiatry, Nursing, Social Work and Rehabilitations.)
• Offer technical training and support for the use of computer/iPad-based psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and sustaining psychology-led statewide therapeutic initiatives.
• Participate as a psychology subject matter expert in clinical consultations to promote the use of best practices.
• Collaborate with State Operated Services Central Office colleagues to develop, roll out, promote, and sustain Central Office led initiatives, including the development of a new Electronic Health Record.
• Promote and support facility-based psychology training programs throughout the state, including volunteer graduate level training and APA-accredited psychology internship programs.
• Develop standardized guidance documents to support facility-based psychology training programs.
• Develop and maintain a learning didactics series to promote best practices for psychologists and trainees.
• Provide program management and training in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological disorders; evaluate and provide various psychological services to individuals and groups, including specialized assessments and interventions.
• Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of psychological programs and services; take a lead role in ensuring best practices and adherence to discipline standards.
• Conduct program evaluations serving as psychology subject matter expert, working with other discipline leads to assist in the overall monitoring of clinical operations statewide.
• Monitor staffing resources, assist in recruitment, retention, and training efforts to support the statewide Psychology Strategic plan.
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures for psychology and related practices within State Operations.
• Represent the Statewide Director of Psychology on committees, site visits and meetings as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be employed by New York State to be eligible to apply for this position and be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title.
Transfer Opportunity:
Candidates must have permanent status as a Principal Psychologist, G-27, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for 70.1 transfer, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the SG-27 level. Additionally, candidate must be licensed and registered to practice psychology in New York State.
Additional Comments Posted salary includes a $20,000 Geographic Differential and a $24,767 Increased Hiring Salary Differential.
