Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the candidate will be involved in all aspects of facility maintenance which will include but not be limited to:
• Perform and supervise maintenance activities, including performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair; operating shop machinery; and operating and maintaining an on-site water system.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices; assisting and directing staff; and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Supervise seasonal employees, including assigning, reviewing, and evaluating their work as well as completing any necessary training.
• Complete the annual inventory report, including locating each item on the report and updating the location and condition of each item; recommending item for surplus; and adding items to the report as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance of buildings, grounds and trails, such as cutting hazardous trees; assist in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical repairs; and operating tractors, skid steers, snow blowers, and other equipment.
• Obtain quotes for the purchase of needed material, equipment, and services.
• Maintain records, including those pertaining to daily maintenance, NYS Department of Health water operation reports, hazardous trees, vehicles, automated external defibrillator (AED), fire extinguishers, playgrounds, bulk petroleum storage, audits, and personal timekeeping.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or obtain Sawyer Certification within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or be able to obtain Water Operator Grade “C” license within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or be able to complete lift training and fall protection training within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or obtain CPR/AED certification within probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to work a flexible work schedule. Daytime, weekend, holiday, and evening work is required.
Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
