Duties Description Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is the nation’s first publicly owned historic site. It was in the Hasbrouck family’s stone farmhouse that General George Washington, along with his wife, Martha, his aides, guards, and enslaved servants spent over 16 months from April of 1782 to August of 1783 as the American War of Independence was ending. During that time, the General created the Badge of Military Merit, forerunner to the modern Purple Heart medal. The cease-fire that ended the war was announced, successfully responding to the Newburgh Conspiracy.
Under the supervision of the Interpretive Programs Assistant, SG-17, the selected candidate’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Conduct tours and present educational programs to visitors, school groups and other organizations.
• Assist with the coordination of special events, conduct research, and perform other site duties as needed.
• Demonstrate friendly and effective public presentation skills and represent the historic site in a professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualification per Civil Service.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A current college student or graduate with some coursework in history, museum studies, or related fields is preferred but not required.
• Interest in the American War of Independence is preferred but not required.
