Duties Description Position Information:

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is looking for a State Fair Administrator 1 to work at the Great New York State Fair from May 2026 to September 2026.
The State Fair Administrator 1 ensures that vendors and exhibitors are solicited for events, reviews contracts and applications for licenses or permits for completeness and accuracy and forwards information to appropriate units; oversees events’ space layout, and set up and break down for events, concessionaires, exhibitors and vendors; ensures that electrical, water service, mechanical and other requirements are met; coordinates events and service requests with other divisions; tracks event expenses and revenues for all services and prepares reports; consults with the finance office regarding contracts, accounting of revenue and reconciliation of accounts; responds to complaints concerning agreements, services and events by taking or recommending corrective action; and ensures event activities comply with contractual terms, State Fair policies, and State and federal laws and regulations.
Located at the New York State Fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Blvd, Syracuse, NY 13209, this is a full-time position with working hours of 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday from May 2026 to September 2026. Salary and Minimum Qualifications:
This State Fair Administrator 1 position is temporary and is paid an hourly rate. An appointment may be made to the candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. This position is not tenure-bearing.
Appointment to this position may be made at one of three levels, depending on your qualifications. The three levels and pay rates are below.
State Fair Administrator Trainee 1, NS= 14; $25.75/hour: Four years of experience* in managing and coordinating events, exhibits, competitions, and the use and rental of facilities, concessions, or supplement services to maximize the facilities' use and profitability.
State Fair Administrator Trainee 2, NS= 16; $28.73/hour: Five years of experience* in managing and coordinating events, exhibits, competitions, and the use and rental of facilities, concessions, or supplement services to maximize the facilities' use and profitability.
State Fair Administrator 1, NS= 18; $32.06/hour: Six years of experience* in managing and coordinating events, exhibits, competitions, and the use and rental of facilities, concessions, or supplement services to maximize the facilities' use and profitability.
*Substitutions: An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master’s degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience.

As a New York State employee, you could potentially qualify to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)! The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your direct student loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan and while working full-time for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets or another eligible employer.
