Duties Description Supervises Fish and Wildlife Technicians 1 and 2, and work crews consisting of seasonal and permanent staff, interns, laborers, and volunteers; plans, implements, and reviews region-wide technical projects and programs.

Manages regional survey databases and monitors them for completeness and accuracy.

Plans, coordinates, and implements regional or multi-regional biological and specimen collection for division projects.

May coordinate statewide initiatives at the regional level for such activities as fishing angler diary, youth activities, willow planting, stream bank stabilization, and fishing clinics.

Ensures that all staff obtain and maintain required vaccinations and safety training.

Tests and maintains field equipment to ensure it meets OSHA and PESH standards.

Coordinates and schedules maintenance of regional wildlife management areas or water resources.

Supervises the posting of boundaries and public fishing rights.

Manages creation of brochures and exhibits, and schedules public presentations.

Reviews and approves minor environmental permit applications.

Performs intermediate GIS tasks.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis
or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at salary grade 13 or higher and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Fish & Wildlife Technician 2.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
