Duties Description The Parks & Recreation Aide 1 (Park Naturalist) will work as part of the regional Interpretive Team to enhance visitor experience through providing safe and enjoyable recreational and interpretive opportunities in the state parks of Niagara and Erie Counties. This will be done through public and requested programs, trail informational assistance, special events in and out of state parks, and the daily operation of our seasonal interpretive facility at Evangola State Park.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Support regional Interpretation staff in planning projects to meet regional goals
• Provide park and natural history information at the Evangola Nature Center
• Take visitor groups on hikes and lead group programs throughout region, primarily within Erie County
• Engage patrons and provide information as a roving naturalist throughout the park
• Participate in outreach events including fairs, festivals, and expos
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have strong organizational skills.
• Must have the ability to perform light physical labor and lift up to 15 pounds.
• Must have the ability to work in all weather conditions
• Must have the ability to work on uneven terrain.
• Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Degree or experience in environmental education, forestry, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources management, or related discipline
WORK LOCATION:
This position has a primary work location at Evangola State Park. The secondary work location is the Regional Interpretive Headquarters at Niagara Falls State Park in Niagara Falls, NY 14303.
