Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 1 and Property Staff the incumbent will:
• Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Operate material handling equipment, move furniture and office equipment as needed at various sites.
• Perform activities and building construction tasks typical of a variety of trade specialties.
• Performs semi-skilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, window sashes, storm windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks, and door hardware.
• Operating shop machinery to make and assemble bookcases, shelves, tables, trenches, signs, and modular furniture.
• Erecting and moving partitions, painting, and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting not requiring fine finish or decorative treatment; staining and finishing wood and furniture.
• Ability to properly use painting equipment, install wallpaper; and spray-painting surfaces and equipment.
• Laying and repairing electrical/data cables and wires.
• Installing and maintaining lighting fixtures, outlets, and switches. Adjusting points and contacts on electrical equipment.
• Initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
• Ability to travel within the Capital Region and occasionally throughout NYS and complete work orders and or moves as required.

Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Must possess a valid NYS CDL
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Ability to operate material handling equipment
- Perform basic building maintenance and repair tasks using the appropriate tools and equipment
- Utilize computer equipment to complete work order documentation
- Perform vehicle safety inspections as required
Additional Comments Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Employment at the Department of Labor is contingent upon the maintenance of a valid work authorization and necessary documentation to work legally in the United States.
Please note: Due to operational requirements and funding considerations of various divisions/positions, there could be occasions in the future where unit assignments may change. Should this occur, it will not impact your title, salary or location.
