Duties Description Under the supervision of higher?level personnel, the Park Worker 3’s duties include, but are not limited to:
• Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power?driven mechanical equipment, including trucks,
• tractors, mowers, and power saws.
• Operate regional commercial vehicles for various projects as needed.
• Perform building and grounds maintenance, including litter control, grounds upkeep and landscaping, snow and ice removal
• Perform general janitorial duties to ensure a clean and safe environment of restroom facilities (supplies/cleanliness).
• Perform semi?skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical,
masonry, and mechanical repairs.
• Assist in building and repairing paths, trails, benches, picnic tables, and park equipment.
• Assign, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of lower?level employees.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting, and directing staff, and
working with patrons to minimize problems.
• Conduct inspections of assigned areas for safety hazards and correct problems where possible and make requests for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed.
• Perform the duties of opening and closing shift supervisor for assigned work area.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must obtaina CDL Class B Driver License within the Probationary Period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must obtain a valid certified Pesticide Applicator Category B certification within the probationary period. As a requirement, the candidate will be expected to maintain this certification to apply fertilizers and pesticides and assist in maintaining the park’s 4-poster program. This will be discussed during the interview.
• Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff, public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
May include weekends, evenings and holidays. A specific schedule will be discussed at the time of the interview.

The listed hiring rate combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($46.641) with Location Pay ($4,000). Similarly, the posted job rate is a combination of the statutory job rate ($56,413) with the Location Pay ($4,000).
