Duties Description HMW 2 duties include but are not limited to:
- Operate one or more of the categories as described above.
- Must be prepared to act as a "crew leader" and be capable of providing instruction to operators and crew members.
- Direct the performance of specific tasks assigned by a Highway Maintenance Supervisor, and when acting as a crew leader, be capable of making assignments, providing instructions, overseeing and assisting work, and keeping appropriate records.
- Provide on the job training to other maintenance workers in the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment.
- Must respond to emergency call-outs within an hour during inclement weather, including snow and ice conditions, to be considered for the position.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications Must have at least one year of satisfactory experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 and possess NYS DOT certification to operate at least two additional types of Category 2 equipment and at least two types of Category 3 equipment, (minimum of 9 certifications total).

Note: higher category certifications may be used in place of lower category certifications.

Highway Maintenance Worker 2: The salary for this position is $54,081 - $64,322. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $45,081 - $55,322 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.

Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.
