Duties Description New York State legislative District office in Brooklyn, NY – is seeking a skilled and proactive Communications Director to manage all aspects of media, messaging, and public engagement. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, strategic thinker, and experienced in navigating fast-paced political or government environments. This full-time in-person position involves collaboration with internal staff, press outlets, and community stakeholders across both district and Albany-based responsibilities.
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson.
Draft press releases, speeches, statements, newsletters, and op-eds
Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategy.
Manage and grow social media presence and engagement.
Coordinate press events, community outreach, and digital campaigns
Monitor media trends and support rapid response efforts.
Travel as required.
Minimum Qualifications Qualifications
2–3+ years of experience in government, journalism, advocacy, or political Communication
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
Familiarity with New York’s legislative and media environment
Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, social scheduling tools, etc.
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in high-pressure settings.
Bilingual or multilingual applicants strongly encouraged to apply.
Ability to travel periodically.
Candidates must be available to start immediately.
