Duties Description The Director of Laboratory Center Administration serves as a high level administrator in support of executive staff and provides general oversight and implementation of administrative and programmatic activities throughout the Wadsworth Center, including the direct oversight of all Center level administrative processes and policies which involve the direction of functions associated with an annual budget of more than $70M and highly diverse staff of approximately 750 employees which are structured in four scientific divisions; scientific cores, a regulatory division and the operations and administrative programs in the Director’s Office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing day-to-day administrative direction to the activities of the Wadsworth Center; developing program objectives and assessing the resource capabilities of the Center to accomplish objectives; and independently performing high level administrative functions.
Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer: Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service at a G-29/M-3 or higher and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law.
Promotional Provisional: Current NYS Department of Health employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service as a Laboratory Center Administrator 2, M-2.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a natural science, public health, public administration or a related field. Professional work experience related to the management of a large program with external stakeholders; strong understanding of state government management processes including fiscal, personnel and legislative; strong interpersonal and organizational skills and excellent independent decision-making, writing and editing, and critical thinking capabilities; ability to assess data to understand needs and plan program direction. Knowledge of public health laboratory operations, scientific research peer review and scientific grant contracting processes and management.

Permanent, Competitive Full Time. Transfer candidates may be asked for their SS# to verify eligibility.

If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.
