Duties Description The Statewide Financial System (SFS) is New York State’s enterprise financial system that supports agency business processes and serves as the State’s accounting system of record. Supporting approximately 80 State agencies, SFS processes over $100 billion in payments on an annual basis, and strives to continually ensure system performance, reliability and availability, safeguard the integrity of the data contained within SFS, and maximize use of SFS functionality for the greatest benefit of NYS government.
We are seeking a versatile and forward-thinking IT professional to support both current infrastructure and future cloud initiatives. This role will initially focus on providing backup support for existing systems administration and performing Linux administration duties. The position will also include exploring cloud-based tools and environments that could be adopted at SFS.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Network-related activities related to interfaces and route tables for on-premises Linux servers
• Network-related activities related to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as described below:
-Virtual cloud networks
-Gateways
-Firewall rules
-Routing rules
-DNS
-Troubleshooting
• Application of patches to our Exadata systems on premises
• Automate the application of Linux patches in our cloud tenancy
• Work with the DBA unit and Oracle support to troubleshoot Exadata issues
• Work with the DBA team to provide access as necessary
• Provide Linux configuration files
• Configure OCI to automatically scan Linux servers
• Configure OCI to automatically patch Linux servers in our cloud tenancy
• Work with the Networking team to set up, troubleshoot and modify on-premises Exadata network interfaces and routing tables
• Work with the Networking team to set up, troubleshoot and modify OCI routes and firewall rules
• Provide system administration support
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the system and network administration of SFS servers
• Perform and document SFS specific installations and configurations for the Exadata machines.
• Assist SFS technical admins with Linux firewall issues
Minimum Qualifications This position is open to NYS employees with one year
permanent, competitive service as an Information Technology
Specialist 4, G-25, or in a title deemed eligible for transfer under
Section 70.1 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. This transfer
cannot be a second, consecutive transfer resulting in an
advancement of more than two grades. In order to qualify for a
Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have one year of
permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title such as
Information Technology Specialist 4 (Database), G-25 and
Information Technology Specialist 4 (Systems Programmer), G-
25. In order to qualify for a Section 52.6 transfer, candidates
must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a
qualifying administrative title such as Assistant Director of
Financial Administration 1, G-25; Project Manager 2, G-25; and
Supervisor Administrative Analysis, G-25. Candidates reachable
on the eligible list will be considered through canvass and need
not apply.

• • Experience of Linux firewall commands and concepts
• Experience in Cloud architecture
• Experience in Cloud Services
• Experience in Infrastructure as a service (IAAS)
• Experience in using python for API interfaces
• Experience with Bastion
• Experience with mounted file systems
• Experience with DNS
• Experience with Certificate authorities and singing certificates
• Experience as a network administrator
