Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.

Under the direction of a higher-level Information Technology Architect (Artificial Intelligence), the Information Technology Architect 1 (Artificial Intelligence) will be responsible for providing senior technical leadership within the artificial intelligence (AI) architecture project lifecycle, making decisions regarding the selection and utilization of software tools and platforms. The position will develop and implement integration standards and strategies within the scope of AI systems development.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Develop AI software and oversee the implementation of AI solutions; models, systems, and infrastructure to help drive organizational improvements and technology products.
• Collaborate with IT security to secure AI business data and fix any possible issues.
• Optimize AI applications to ensure that they continue to meet NYS’ needs as they evolve, maintaining the security, scalability, and high availability of the AI environment.
• Work with other IT team members, including data scientists and leaders, to support digital transformation.
• Build AI software and hardware systems that teams, departments, or companies can integrate into existing IT systems.
• Develop new AI-related applications and managing programmers.
• Implement ML models and convert them into application programming interfaces (APIs) for various uses.
• Collaborate with and guide business and IT stakeholders in choosing compatible technologies which meet the organization’s AI needs.
• Collaborate with security professionals to manage potential risks and implement AI technologies, applications, and infrastructure in keeping with ethical policies.
• Implement best practices for AI testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Manage relationships with AI-related service providers.
• Evaluate performance metrics for all active AI applications, hardware, and software.
• Communicate with NYS agency management and fellow IT team members.
• Report on the efficiency of specific AI applications to IT team leaders, executives, and NYS agency representatives.
• Troubleshoot any issues with specific AI applications, or issues that NYS agencies might have when implementing applications with their existing networks, responding to NYS agency representatives in a professional and timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications • Six (6) years of broad information technology (IT) experience, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of software coding and programming languages.
• Four (4) years of specialized experience designing, executing, and supporting artificial intelligence solutions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
• Associate’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or a related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience. Candidates in a bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or a related field can substitute for one year of general information technology experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in any field including or supplemented by fifteen (15) semester credit hours in computer science or a related field substitutes for three years substitutes for three (3) years of general information technology experience.
Bachelor’s degree in any field substitutes for two years of general information technology experience.
• Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non-immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence.

If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
