Duties Description This position is in the DEC Emergency Management Unit. The incumbent will support agency emergency preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation functions.

Duties/Responsibilities

•Provide administrative oversight in the planning, development, coordination, and execution of the emergency response process for the Department across all program areas.

•Provide technical insight and expertise regarding emergency response program issues to the Executive Office, and the Department’s Divisions and Regions.

•Provide guidance on health and safety issues and regulations related to emergency response.

•Develop annual work plans that address Department priorities and staffing allocations as well as provide guidance and assistance in the development of new positions to address work-load shortfalls.

•Provide oversight and guidance in the development of Emergency Response Internal Controls.

•Represent the Department on multi-agency task forces and committees on issues related to emergency response and homeland security.

•Represent Department as a liaison to local, state, federal, and international agencies on matters related to emergency response and homeland security.

•Ideal candidates are creative, solution-oriented professionals with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills who are driven to improve processes and advance efficiencies.

•In addition, the Deputy Director will work to advance the agency’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by assessing and addressing barriers and opportunities in recruitment and hiring practices and demonstrate a commitment to cultural competency.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelors and five years of experience in a related field or 9 years of required experience in a related field.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
