Duties Description NYS HELPS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

The New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Administrator to join our Information Technology team. The ITS3 Network Administrator will be responsible for managing and securing network infrastructure, with a focus on next-generation firewall technologies, VLAN tagging, access rules, and filtering tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network security, administration, and troubleshooting. A CCNA certification or equivalent experience is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain secure and scalable network infrastructure to support NYSBOE operations.
• Configure and manage next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) to enforce security policies, including deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention, and web filtering.
• Implement and manage VLAN tagging to ensure proper network segmentation and security.
• Develop and enforce access and filtering rules to regulate network traffic and prevent unauthorized access.
• Monitor and analyze network performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Configure access, distribution and core switches
• Maintain wireless access points and wireless networks for internal and external access
• Work closely with security and IT teams to ensure compliance with state and federal security regulations.
• Support network integration with external organizations such as county boards of elections.
• Provide technical support, training, and documentation related to network infrastructure.
• Participate in disaster recovery and incident response planning and execution.


Minimum Qualifications Five years of professional experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design, and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing.

Substitution:
A bachelor's degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience; or a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field and three years of experience; or an associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field and four years of experience.

Additional Comments This position is for employment with the IT Unit of the New York State Board of Elections (SBOE) in Albany, NY. The State Board of Elections works with, but is independent from, the NYS Office of IT Services.
