Duties Description The incumbent to this position would be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

• Engaging in all phases of legal work to include legal writing and analysis, statutory and case law interpretation, providing advisory opinions and guidance, drafting/filing court papers and making appearances as needed.
• Prosecuting disciplinary matters from case assessment through administrative hearing resolution and drafting written recommendations regarding requests for reconsideration of agency determinations.
• Providing legal guidance and support to all agency bureaus as well as in response to external requests as assigned.
• Supervising attorneys and support staff, including assigning cases/tasks, reviewing work product, and engaging in quality assessment.
• Familiarity with, or the willingness and ability to learn, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law in addition to creating/presenting training opportunities for staff and others on the ABCL as well as internal process/polices as assigned.
• Collaborating on legislative analysis and proposals including making recommendations as requested.
• Performing other duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 61 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law AND possess a Juris Doctorate degree, admission to the New York State Bar and be in good standing.
