Duties Description Will serve as the director of the social services department and will be responsible for overseeing the social work staff, assessing their knowledge, skills, and performance, and offering training, constructive feedback, and counseling as necessary. Will be responsible for determining social work program priorities, goals, and objectives. Will develop and monitor policies and practices to ensure consistency with regulations, requirements, agency policy, professional standards, and other pertinent laws, rules, and regulations. The Social Work Supervisor 1 is responsible for overseeing administrative work and reporting functions such as fiscal management, human resource management, program statistical reports, and other support services. They also prepare budget requests for the social work program; actively participate in the recruitment and selection of social work staff. Responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures, as well as competency-based assessment tools. Monitor practices for the Social Services Department, and monitor staff time and attendance, including overtime. Participate in budget meetings and manage the budget for the department. The Social Work Supervisor 1 Reviews and evaluates clinical documentation and the ability of social work staff to assess and treat individuals, determine the quality and appropriateness of treatment and interventions provided to individuals, and ensure that documentation meets professional and regulatory guidelines. Evaluates the educational needs of social work staff and ensures they maintain continuing education and licensure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State and one year of service as a Licensed Master Social Worker.
Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service
in a position allocated to Grade 21 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 and or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Social Work Supervisor 1.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Long-Term Care setting

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Social Worker 2 or Social Worker 2 (any parenthetic); AND
must be LICENSED AND CURRENTLY REGISTERED as a certified social worker in New York State.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
