Duties Description This position is located within the Bureau of Actuarial, Division of Retirement Services and is responsible for:
• Fiscal Notes
o Develop a working knowledge in checking all and creating simple fiscal notes.
o Develop a mastery of Access.
o Develop a mastery of PeopleSoft data and cases.
o Review and check all revisions to fiscal note policies.

• Actuarial Data Aggregation and Year End File Creation
o Develop a working knowledge of the process that creates and validates the actuarial year end file.
o Develop a mastery of PeopleSoft data and cases.
o Develop a mastery of TSQL and PL/SQL.
o Develop an understanding of actuarial valuation and experience study requirements.

• Publications
o Establish a working knowledge in checking actuarial reports and miscellaneous calculations.
o Develop a mastery of Excel.
o Develop a mastery of the actuarial valuation book, the report of the actuary, and the actuarial components of the ACFR and insurance report.
o Review and check all entries in these documents.

• Actuarial Calculations
o Perform bond refunding, workers compensation offsets, escalation, COLA, structured judgements, and option 4 calculations (including qualified domestic relations orders).
o Develop a mastery of Excel.
o Develop a mastery of bond refunding and option 4 calculations.
o Assure QDRO compliance.

• Actuarial Assumptions Research
o As directed by the Chief Actuary, perform independent research of outside forces impacting various actuarial assumptions, by conducting in-house studies and reading professional literature, and report findings.
o Support the development of presentations delivered by the Chief Actuary.
o Support the development of the Actuarial Assumptions Report.
o Draft memorandums establishing policies and procedures for actuarial bureau for review by the lead actuary.

Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NYHELPS Program:
A bachelor's degree or higher including or supplemented by 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, and/or actuarial science; AND successful completion of one examination of the Society of Actuaries; AND one year of actuarial experience.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title. There are no transfer options for this title.

Additional Comments Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

(1) Demonstrates interest in pursuing the Society of Actuaries examinations
(2) At least 1 year of experience in NYSLRS
(3) At least 1 year of pension actuarial experience
(4) Proven ability to clearly communicate both verbally and electronically
(5) Ability to work efficiently both independently and within a diverse team
(6) Independent learner, inquisitive and willing to challenge the status quo
