Duties Description As the Assistant Director Division of Law Enforcement, you will assist the Director in coordinating all Division of Law Enforcement activities, including organizing, staffing and developing procedural policies of the officer force. You will also be responsible for advising the Director on all matters pertaining to Division programs and take charge of the Central Enforcement Office in the Director’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications provided below for provisional appointment:

Promotion: You must be a qualified employee of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Either A: as a Major Environmental Conservation;

Or B: two years as a Chief Environmental Conservation Police Officer.

Please note: If no more than three individuals meeting the provisional qualifications are interested, it may be possible to make a permanent appointment via non-competitive promotion.

You may also be eligible by:

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

Or

Transfer Eligible -

Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a position allocated to an SG-29/M3 or above and be eligible for transfer pursuant to Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
