Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Supervisor and higher-level managers, the Park and Recreation Aide will be responsible for grounds care, general facility maintenance, and visitor experience at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park.
• Performs general park and facility maintenance, customer service, and program support.
• Staff entrance booth, greet park patrons in a friendly and courteous manner, track visitation, and assist with directions.
• Clearly communicate key information like park rules, operating hours, areas of interest, or address patron concerns, compiling incident reports if applicable.
• Maintains the park and facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment, which includes maintenance, sanitizing of facilities, and trash removal.
• Receives training on and utilizes a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, and line trimmers.
• Patrols the park and interacts with patrons to resolve questions as needed, disseminate information, and provide excellent customer service.
• Supports public programming, seasonal events, maintenance, and operations projects onsite, and throughout the NYC region.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications NO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS TITLE PER CIVIL SERVICE.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with customer service, maintenance, and/or horticulture
• Interest in history and architecture
• Bilingual
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. If not licensed at the time of appointment, the appointee must obtain a driver’s license without restrictions or conditions within the term of probation.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor; must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with park patrons and partners.
• Must possess ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment
• Must possess strong organization skills and the ability to work independently.
• Must be willing to work outdoors year-round and in all weather conditions.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• May be required to report to other facilities throughout the NYC Region on an as-needed basis.
