Duties Description A Research Scientist 3 is needed to serve as the Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) for the Wadsworth Center clinical laboratories that perform clinical testing at three different locations across the Capital District. Under the direction of the clinical laboratory director, the Quality Assurance Manager will ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including the NY State Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition, the Quality Assurance Manager oversees and maintains responsibility for developing, implementing, and maintaining Quality Assurance (QA) for the Wadsworth Center’s clinical laboratories. Federal and state regulations require clinical laboratories to establish a Quality Management System, to continually assess and improve the quality of laboratory services and ensure that it is complaint with regulatory requirements. State regulations also require that we designate a quality systems manager or quality assurance officer who has the experience and authority to ensure communication, training, competency assessment and ongoing compliance monitoring with all requirements of our Quality Management System.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and four years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; or a Master's degree and three years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or other related clinical laboratory field; recent experience as a quality assurance officer/manager in a clinical laboratory; experience in quality management systems, quality control, proficiency testing, method validation, accreditation, or quality improvement; recent work experience in a clinical laboratory; experience with state and/or federal laws and regulations pertaining to clinical testing.
Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
