Duties Description Plan and develop library services for incarcerated individuals. Manage and evaluate services provided by the library. Select and acquire library materials. Classify, catalogue, and index library material. Provide reference searching, bibliographic, and reader assistance services to incarcerated individuals. Supervise and train subordinate staff, including volunteer workers.
Minimum Qualifications SENIOR LIBRARIAN/SG-19
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: must have a master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND two years of full time post-degree professional librarian experience.
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination - Advanced Placement: must have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND two years of full time post-degree professional librarian experience.
A master's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is not qualifying.
LIBRARIAN 1/NS (EQ to SG-15)
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: must have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
A master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is not qualifying.
Note: The eligible list resulting from this examination may also be used to make direct appointments to the following titles: Librarian 2 and Senior Librarian.
The Program: is designed to select candidates with a background in library science for entry-level professional positions in various New York State agencies and DOCCS facilities statewide. Appointments will be offered as Librarian 1. Upon satisfactory completion of 26 complete payroll periods (52 weeks) as a Librarian 1, you will be advanced to Librarian 2. After you complete 26 payroll periods of satisfactory service as a Librarian 2, you will be advanced to Senior Librarian.
