Duties Description New York State Psychiatric Institute is currently recruiting a Licensed Psychologist to provide professional psychological services to individuals with mental illness.

Psychologists at New York State Psychiatric Institute are part of an interdisciplinary treatment team and provide assessment and treatment to individuals with mental illness including:
• Providing clinical leadership and program management
• Conducting forensic or court-ordered assessments
• Providing treatment and expert testimony
• Providing individual, group, or family therapy and crisis intervention
• Maintaining records and documentation

The ideal candidate will have a PsyD or PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and experience working with adults with mood, anxiety, and eating disorders. The selected candidate will serve as Primary Clinician to a subset of patients on NYSPI’s three inpatient units, with primary focus on patients within the General Clinical Research Unit (GCRU) serving patients with affective, anxiety, or trauma disorders and research participants in studies related to psychosis and substance use disorders, as well as patients on the Eating Disorders Unit (EDU). Duties will include providing individual, group, and family therapy and care management; conducting diagnostic assessments and treatment planning; short-term interventions for crisis stabilization; consultation; training; and discipline specific supervision of psychology externs and interns who currently rotate on the units. The psychologist will participate in the multidisciplinary teams on the inpatient units and share their expertise through attendance at case conferences, team meetings, and staff trainings. The psychologist also will be poised to employ measurement-based care, training in evidence-based manualized interventions, and provide supervision of multi-disciplinary professionals including psychology interns and externs, medical students, and residents.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are licensed and currently registered to practice Psychology in New York State.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Licensed Psychologist eligible list. The salary of $145,413 includes an increased Statutory Hiring Rate $25,077, Geographic Pay Differential $20,000, and a Downstate Adjustment $4,000.
