Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Reading, Education, Counseling or related field
Experience providing tutoring support, study skills assistance, time management strategies or other learning support instruction to high school or college students with specific emphasis on working with students with disabilities in an academic setting
Experience working with students experiencing academic challenges for any reason, including but not limited to, a lack of academic preparation, skills, or motivation, or a diagnosed learning disability, attention deficit disorder, etc.
Candidate should possess understanding of relevant disability law (e.g., the Americans with Disabilities Act), academic support theory and best practices
Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized and able to manage administrative tasks
Excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality
Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving/conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills
Ability to work with diverse students, assess needs, and provide appropriate academic support and/or referrals to other university resources
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations and projects
Ability to utilize computer software, hardware and other technical tools to accomplish work tasks
Duties Description SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic, forward thinking and engaging Access and Equity Learning Coach.
The Disability Learning Coach will provide direct assistance to students with disabilities to facilitate positive academic performance by assisting students to understand their unique learning strengths and weaknesses. This position will involve providing assistance with time management strategies, general study skills, test taking strategies, tutoring assistance, and active utilization of cognitive strengths to improve academic performance. This position may include course specific tutoring and or referral as needed.
Provide basic reading and writing skill instruction to students with learning disabilities and/or low skill levels
Monitor academic progress in courses and maintain detailed notes and records for reporting
Monitor assignment completeness and preparedness for classes, exams, and projects. Assist with assignment organization and completion
Prepare summary reports and updates for the Coordinator
Proctor exams and monitor office as needed
Flexible schedule to meet office/student needs including late afternoons, evenings and weekends
