Duties Description Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit (WHU), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to provide inpatient psychiatric treatment to individuals with serious mental illness.
The selected candidate will be part of the care team on the Washington Heights Community Service unit, a 21-bed acute care inpatient unit providing accessible, culturally sensitive, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based treatment of the highest quality to individuals in Northern Manhattan. Duties will include but are not limited to leading and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary treatment teams; providing psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and group therapy; providing on-call supervision to psychiatric residents; and serving on a rotating basis as the overnight and weekend attending back-up via phone.
• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
• Creating treatment plans including medication management
• Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
• Providing individual and group psychotherapy
• Supervising Psychiatric Residents and Fellows
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:
Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,150.

PSYCHIATRIST 2: $283,577
NOTE:
1. If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
