Duties Description The Office of Sustainability is looking for an individual to support the overall mission of the SUNY sustainability team, with a focus on supporting engagement with and among the campus network of sustainability stakeholders, current students, and prospective students. This position is responsible for oversight and growth of the SUNY Climate Corps internship program, as well as implementing a communications strategy for the overall SUNY sustainability program that demonstrates SUNY's leadership in sustainability and provides students with opportunities to engage in sustainability programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with campus sustainability leads to facilitate student and campus engagement efforts, this may include supporting campuses with tools and resources to make activities like bike share programs, recycling campaigns, tree plantings, or outdoor recreational activities, engaging; and amplifying the activities of the campuses to elevate SUNY's overall reputation.
- Support the overall SUNY program by hosting outreach and education programs open to a wide audience, conducting surveys and sustainability assessments to guide efforts of SUNY System Administration and campuses and to communicate progress (and challenges) about campus engagement in sustainability programs and activities.
- Help develop and implement a communication strategy for the overall SUNY program that elevates the work of all campuses by creating cohesion between 64 campuses messaging; including, managing and maintaining the sustainability pages on the SUNY website with information gathered from the campuses including but not limited to: updated course and program listings, regularly postings on research across the system, and short video pieces. Additionally, draft Instagram, Linked In, and other social media posts.
- Oversee all aspects of the SUNY Climate Corps internship program, including recruitment of agencies to provide internship opportunities and development and oversight of agency contracts and agreements required to participate in the program. Support agencies in their recruitment of student applications by providing instructions on how to post listings on Handshake, and using SUNY communication tools to leverage outreach to students statewide; evaluate and track progress of the Climate Corps program in reaching the objectives of SUNY, the partnering agencies, and funders; create programs to mentor students and provide a platform for them to share experiences. This position is responsible for ensuring all agency paperwork is submitted and processed on time for payments and developing quarterly and annual reports to the grantor.
- Help organize an annual SUNY sustainability conference.
- Work with other SUNY offices to amplify the benefits of sustainability programming across SUNY in appealing to prospective students.
- As needed during the reporting season, help prepare annual SUNY and EO22 progress reports and other documents, including analysis of data across the full spectrum of sustainability sectors.
Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, communications, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in program management, program development, or policy implementation with a sustainability or environmental theme.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to create and foster professional connections and build a network of stakeholders
- Ability to work independently when necessary, generating and following up on leads, anticipating project needs, and initiating own work, while also understanding appropriate times to seek guidance and authorization.
- Willingness to pitch in and help on team projects.
- Strong written, oral, and visual communications skills.
- Use of Microsoft Office software suite.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to the sustainability field.
- Experience in program evaluation and/or strategic planning.
- Knowledge of environmental and climate change issues.
- Design, photography, and video creation and editing skills.
- Skills in social media.
- Web design.
Additional Comments Additional Information:
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
- The incumbent can be located in Albany or New York City.
- Travel to campuses will be required. Travel to conferences may be required.
- Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $54,000-$62,000 annually.
- The state title for this position is Staff Assistant (SL-2) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
