Duties Description ·Oversee day-to-day operations of the Advocacy & Peer Support Unit, including workflow coordination and administrative processes.
·Provide daily oversight, guidance, and direction to Peer Specialists; supporting advocacy and support services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
·Review staff caseloads, address challenging barriers, and support professional development.
·Facilitate meetings with staff, individuals, and families to promote collaboration, communication, and shared learning.
·Direct the development and facilitation of self-advocacy groups.
·Collaborate with Director of Advocacy on the development of unit policies, procedures and best practices to enhance efficiency and consistency.
·Provide hands-on support in advocacy activities, including co-facilitating meetings, modeling best practices, and assisting with complex cases.
·Direct Advocates in identifying and engaging in meaningful advocacy opportunities.
·Provide technical assistance and expertise related to available programs and services.
·Assist in communication efforts between OPWDD and provider organizations.
·Support advocates in developing organizational, communication, and professional strategies to perform the functions of their job.
·Ensure through supervision participation in external engagements.
·Establish and maintain systems to track assignments, unit projects, outcomes, and performance metrics.
·Gather data and prepare written and visual reports on agency initiatives, developments, successes, and areas of improvement.
·Support education and outreach efforts to increase awareness of advocacy services.
·Research and identify opportunities for program growth and improved service delivery; provide feedback and recommendations for new initiatives, policies, and programs.
This position will be located at one of the following locations:
- Albany- 44 Holland Avenue, Albany
- Oneida- 118 Business Park Dr, Utica
*Note: This position is a newly classified position and is pending placement into the non-competitive jurisdictional class. Until such approval, all appointments will be made temporary, pending jurisdictional class (JC). Once placed in the non-competitive class, the appointment type will be converted to permanent.

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Seven years of experience* as a professional advocate or service provider in rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, or homeless youth.
Substitution: An associate degree may substitute for two years of general experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of general experience; a master’s degree may substitute for five years of general experience; or a doctorate may substitute for six years of general experience.

• All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer. ° Up to three (3) days professional leave each year to participate in professional development events.

• Paid Parental Leave:
Paid Parental Leave allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave at full pay for each qualifying event. A qualifying event is defined as the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.
