Duties Description This position involves working in the recently established Survey Unit, which supports the Department in conducting high quality surveys and leading other types of data collection though methods such as qualitative interviews and focus groups. The Survey Unit is flexible and handles many ad-hoc requests, to which it provides recommendations on appropriate data collection methodology and research design considerations. The Survey Unit offers the opportunity to work on multiple different projects and support various divisions within NYSDOL. Interns will be able to contribute to all aspects of research design for surveys and other methodologies, from working with stakeholders to refine specific research goals to creating reports to share project findings. Surveys will be created using software tools such as Alchemer. There are opportunities to perform data analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data using Excel, software applications like Dedoose, as well as statistical software tools like R.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
Be 18 years of age or older
Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State*
Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent

The learning objectives for this position include developing skills in survey design and implementation, enhancing data analysis skills, improving report writing and data visualization skills, and developing teamwork and collaboration skills. Skills desired for this position are strong attention to detail and analytic aptitude, as well as excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
