Duties Description Under the direction of the Assistant Park and Recreation Supervisor, the Park Worker 3 will be responsible for general facility and park maintenance and patrolling –related duties. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform light duties, building and ground maintenance, and use a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, line trimmers, and snow blowers.
• Perform general janitorial duties to ensure a clean and safe environment, which will include daily cleaning and sanitizing of facility restrooms, kitchen areas, and common areas; trash removal and restocking of paper goods and other supplies as needed throughout facility, i.e. soap, paper towels, etc.
• Supports the Division for Historic Preservation programming, including event set-up and break-down.
• Cleaning and checking fleet vehicles for basic maintenance.
• Perform patrolling duties throughout the facility when/as needed
• Perform light maintenance duty such as painting, checking drains, and assisting with moving equipment/furniture or deliveries as needed
• Work independently as well as with others.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree*, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor and must be able to lift at least 30 pounds
• Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff, public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner.
• Applicants must be willing to work outdoors year-round and in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
• NYS Security Guard License is preferred but not required.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
• Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.
