Duties Description DESCRIPTION:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Ensure clear communication with the shop, other trades areas, and with all campus departments to support efficiency and productivity.
Coordinate maintenance schedules and shop activities to ensure effective utilization of staff and equipment; Assign work to all shop personnel, both in writing and orally as needed.
Inspect and approve completed work to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
Provide technical guidance and demonstrate proper repair methods and procedures to shop personnel as needed.
Complete and review formal performance evaluations in a timely manner.
Under guidance from the MOC Director, manage all personnel actions, including informal counseling, written counseling, and disciplinary actions.
Ensure compliance with time and attendance rules and timely completion of timesheets.
Safety and Shop and Office Upkeep:
Ensure that work areas (both in-shop & job sites) are maintained in a safe, orderly, and clean condition, in compliance with OSHA standards.
Observe and correct safety issues as needed, and ensure required equipment inspections (lifts, fuel pumps, etc.) are completed.
Enforce fire and safety rules and regulations in all shop and job site operations.
Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the shop and office areas.
Monthly Reporting and Compliance:
Supervise Garage USTs, including proper operation of the Veeder-Root system, weekly required tests, sump basin checks, and fuel pump maintenance.
Perform required monthly "sticking" of tanks and maintain documentation.
Conduct and document monthly emergency generator inspections and ensure correction of deficiencies identified during inspection.
Preventative Maintenance and Repairs:
Inspect and road test vehicles/equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
Identify, order, and stock parts, tools, and supplies needed for motor equipment maintenance and repair.
Schedule all preventative maintenance and vehicle repairs, and ensure repairs are performed correctly; may perform repairs when needed.
Fleet Evaluation, Tracking, and Recordkeeping
Maintain a fleet evaluation process to assess vehicle condition and make repair-versus-replacement recommendations to support annual budget planning.
Ensure daily equipment status updates are entered into the fleet management system.
Maintain a tracking system for parts, repairs, and labor costs using the TMA maintenance management system, and generate work orders for all completed work.
Vehicle Management:
Manage golf carts.
Ensure all "reserved" vehicles are inspected, cleaned, fueled, and ready for use.

Minimum Qualifications Competitive Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be reachable on the full-time, permanent Civil Service list for Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) or must have held the permanent title of Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) in the past or be eligible to transfer into the title.

Non-Competitive NY HELPS Qualifications:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the non- competitive minimum qualifications for this position:
One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.
Must possess a valid NYS Driver's license.
Must possess or be eligible to obtain a motor vehicle inspector license certified by the Department of Motor Vehicles in NYS.
