Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 3, SG-19, or a higher-level designee, the Trades Generalist will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades, as well as general building and facility maintenance. Duties will include, but are not limited to, but are not limited to:
• Perform journey-level work in the carpentry trade and semi-skilled work in other trades
• Perform tasks and complete projects associated with the maintenance of parks, grounds, and infrastructure.
• Perform tasks using and caring for appropriate hand and power tools specific to trades, as well as operating small equipment and machinery such as aerial lift, bucket truck, wood chippers, skidsteer, trenching machines, and more.
• Assist in other areas of site operations as directed, which may include emergencies.
• Plan, coordinate, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision.
• Lay out work following blueprints, specifications, oral, or written instruction; diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials, and order supplies and materials following purchasing guidelines.
• Perform medium to heavy manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods, which also requires working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• May be required to supervise.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess “Game of Logging” chainsaw safety and productivity training program or approved equivalent course within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff, public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner.
• Must have working knowledge and attend all safety trainings relevant to carpentry and other trades.
• Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and the ability to issue oral and written instructions to staff.
• Must have the physical ability to perform heavy lifting.
