Duties Description The Public Health Field Service Representative 1 (PHFSR1) will conduct Tuberculosis (TB) Program activities in the MARO Region. The incumbent will, assist in providing on-site technical advice and direction to local health departments for all TB related outbreaks/events within the region; assist with new contact investigations across multiple jurisdictions; participate with other regional staff on expanded contact investigations in congregate settings, such as homless shelters, schools, workplaces, prisons/jails, etc.; collect, record and monitor TB case/suspect data using DOH data systems to ensure accurate/timely case follow-up and completion of NYSDOH and CDC reports; assist in facilitating the continuity of care and management of inmates with active/suspect TB as they are transferred within NYSDOCCS facilities and as the re-enter the general population; assist in the development/presentation of in-service education and training within the region; and other TB related activities within the catchment area.

Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Current NYS Department of Health (DOH) employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Field Services Representative 1 (G18), OR current NYS DOH employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent competitive or non-competitive service as a Public Health Representative 2 (G16) or Public Health Representative 3 (G18) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above G11 and eligible to transfer to Public Health Field Service Representative Trainee 1 under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by having a specialized bachelor’s degree and obtained a passing score on the current NYS Department of Civil Service Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) select titles eligible list# 50-002, or Public Health Field Services Representative Trainee 1 list# 00-501.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in communicable disease epidemiology and disease surveillance, activites, especially in a prison setting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently. Experience using NYSDOH data systems, such as the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS) and the Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS).

Additional Comments The position may be filled in Central Islip or New Rochelle.

Permanent, competitive, full-time. Two year traineeship leading to a G18. Transfer candidates may be asked for SSN to verify title history and eligibility.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
