Duties Description Under the direction of the higher-level Park Managers and Park Supervisors, the Trades Generalist will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment, and electrical trades.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform repairs and maintenance at Grafton Lakes State Park and other satellite facilities as requested, including routine tasks such as groundskeeping (mowing, trash pickup), general maintenance and specialized projects.
• Perform heavy equipment operation, including but not limited to tractors, loaders, mowers, and snowplows
• Perform tasks and complete projects associated with the maintenance of parks, grounds, and infrastructure.
• Perform tasks that require a basic working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in multiple trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and motor equipment maintenance.
• Assist in directing facility maintenance and supervising lower-level staff in the absence of the maintenance supervisor and facility managers.
• Assist with preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as well as simple diagnosis and less complex component repair of maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Assist in maintenance of DOH requirements for water systems, collect water samples, turn the water on and off at buildings, identify leaks, winterize buildings, and start up, operate, and maintain drinking water systems.
• Assist in other areas of site operations as directed, which may include emergency situations.
• Will work independently to plan and lay out projects, interpret and understand plans, supervise and train others as needed for specified projects. Must also troubleshoot problems and make necessary repairs to complete assigned tasks and ensure that instructions have been followed, and the quality of work is satisfactory.
• May be required to supervise.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled
tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training,
apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Perform medium to heavy manual labor,?including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods, which also requires working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be willing to keep up on all mandated safety training, including First Aid/CPR/AED.
• Must possess or complete “Game of Logging” chainsaw safety and productivity training program or approved equivalent course within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and the ability to issue oral and written instructions to staff.
