Duties Description The Public Information Specialist 1, with the oversight and supervision of the Assistant Manager of Communications & Outreach and the Communications Program Coordinator, will work collaboratively to design and produce multimedia content to support the work of the Communications & Outreach (C&O) team and the mission of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System (NYSTRS).
Job Duties
The duties of the Public Information Specialist 1 include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Work with internal departments and C&O to develop multimedia content as needed and ensure brand consistency
Develop motion graphics, write scripts, and capture and edit audio and video content for nystrs.org, social media platforms as well as virtual and in-person events
Coordinate and execute video production of live events
Collaborate on communications strategy discussions to support project requirements
Other projects as needed to support the department and NYSTRS
Keep informed on changing technologies and conventions for audio/video/motion graphic production
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
EITHER: 1) Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list; OR 2) Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as a Public Information Specialist 1 (SG-18); OR 3) Eligible for transfer under the provisions of the Civil Service Law by virtue of having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title.

To be appointed via the NY HELPS program, you must meet the following requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND two years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media; OR
A master's or higher degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND one year of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media; OR
Six years of the experience as described above.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the complete Adobe Creative Suite of programs
Four or more years of experience in digital media serving different audiences
Experience with on-site A/V production of live events, including the set-up of A/V production equipment (i.e., video cameras, DSLRs, microphones)
Ability to produce motion graphics, video, and audio editing programs (e.g. Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition) for a variety of audiences
Experience capturing and editing of audio and video for scripted productions as well as live events
Experience piloting and capturing content with a drone
Experience creating graphic design work
A commitment to creativity, collaboration and exceptional customer service
Excellent time management and the ability to handle multiple priority projects at once
Flexibility to pivot as work demands require and adapt to new technologies
Strong communication skills to serve various audiences and through various mediums
Ability to communicate complicated concepts to different audiences across different mediums
Ability and willingness to work with a diverse array of departments and colleagues in a collaborative work environment to create products that serve constantly evolving audiences and stakeholders
Additional Comments Physical demands include the carry and set up of audio-video gear at NYSTRS' main office, as well as off-site events on an as needed basis.
