Duties Description The Department of History and Philosophy at State University of New York Old Westbury seeks to hire a full-time Lecturer for the 2025/2026 academic year (Fall 2025 and Spring 2026) to teach courses on World History and Historiography. This is a one-year appointment. Candidates for this temporary position will teach four (4) 4-credit courses per semester. The candidate will be an active, voting member of the department and will be expected to attend department meetings and assist with departmental events and student advising if necessary. Applicants who are ABD or hold a Ph.D. in History or closely allied field are strongly preferred. Period and regional specialization are open but preference will be given to candidates specializing in an area outside of North America or whose specialization is transregional, dealing with topics such as migration, empire, trade, diplomatic history, etc. Candidates should be able to teach introductory courses in World History with a Non-Western focus, as well as core disciplinary courses such as Historiography. Ability to teach one or more of the following specialties is a plus: Transregional courses in topics such as migration, empire, among others; Survey courses in the history or culture of a region other than North America, or environmental history.

The Department of History and Philosophy houses a B.A. in history, a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a B.A. in the combined areas of philosophy and religion. We also offer content courses in our School of Education's Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Adolescence Education Social Studies.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements:

A minimum of a Master's degree in History or closely related field.
Teaching experience at the college level in the candidate's field.

Preferred Qualifications:

ABD or Ph.D. in History or closely related field.
Specialization or documented research interest in Global or Transregional history and/or the history of an area outside North America.
Experience teaching a culturally and economically diverse student population.
