Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.

Duties Description The incumbent in this position will:
• Perform skilled journey-level work in the electrical trades, including the installation and maintenance of electric motors, generators, automatic controls, and all aspects of electrical distribution.
• Operate a bucket truck following all applicable safety measures.
• Maintain underground and overhead wires, install circuit breakers, install new electric wiring, pull and rehab pumps, wire sewer lift stations, and act as a troubleshooter on all aspects of the electric system.
• Supervise subordinates in routine electrical work and inspect completed work for compliance with accepted standards and electrical codes as needed.
• Use electrical meters and other tools of the trade.
• Patrol power lines on foot through parkland, including difficult terrain, to identify faults for power line outages.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must be able to operate a bucket truck and work at heights off both ladders and bucket trucks.
• Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B** that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have a working knowledge of:
o Electrical theory as applied to the electrical trades, practices and techniques
o The mathematics of the electrical trade
Applicable standards and electrical code regulations
o The principles and basic knowledge of electronic theory and practice
o Reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints and generator and motor control diagrams, and using the tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade.
• Must be available after hours, weekends, and holidays for storms and other emergencies in the parks.

** Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
