Related degrees may include Computer Science, Bio-informatics, physics, genetics, or analytics, and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field. Substitution: master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience.""

Preferred Qualifications: Strong statistical and data management skills. Proficient in the use of SAS and/or SQL, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. Prior experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau. Experience with extracting, merging and linking health care datasets for the application of higher order analysis. Knowledge of statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics. Familiarity with quality improvement concepts and methodologies. Excellent communication and organizational skills. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.


Duties Description "
The Assistant Research Scientist/ Research Scientist 1/ Research Scientist 2 in the New York State Department of Health’s Office of Quality and Patient Safety will help to ensure that all New Yorkers irrespective of their person and care setting will have access to health care services that are safe and of the highest quality consistent with the best available evidence. The Assistant Research Scientist/ Research Scientist 1/ Research Scientist 2 will work for the Director of the Managed Long Term Care Evaluation Unit to help the Office meet its expanding responsibilities to report Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) quality measures, as well as assist in Managed Long Term Care quality measurement and reporting, research, evaluation, and health information analysis. "

Additional Comments If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist other research staff with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties under general supervision; if appointed as a Research Scientist 2, the incumbent will work with more independence.
