Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in masonry under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor or designee, the incumbent will be assigned to the Regional Carpentry Crew. Duties will include:
• Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines.
• Perform journey-level masonry and plaster work on a variety of structures utilizing materials such as brick, stone, concrete, and plaster.
• Design, construct, and assemble forms for concrete footers, piers, foundations, sidewalks, drainage structures, stairs, etc.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with all applicable codes.
• Assist the Regional Carpentry Crew with supporting basic carpentry tasks, including installation, maintenance, and repair of floors, roofs, siding, doors and windows, stairs, and other semi-skilled tasks as assigned.
• When assigned, supervise a staff of lower-level employees in the execution of projects.
• The incumbent will be expected to maintain daily activity reports, along with other required written records.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have knowledge and experience working with applicable hand and power tools associated with the masonry and carpentry trades.
• Must successfully complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration training and obtain a scaffolding “Competent Person” certificate within the probationary period.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
