Salary RangeFrom $18.35 to $18.35 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
Duties Description 1) Education: Teach programs independently in school classrooms, as well as conduct programs for adults and the general public in both indoor and outdoor settings.
2) Teacher Training Assistance: Assist education staff set up and conduct educator workshops using national environmental education programs such as Project WILD, Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers)
3) Public Outreach: Speak with the public at fairs, festivals, or other public events on the mission and goals of NYSDEC and to educate the public about environment and natural resources.
4) Support: Assist education staff with answering questions from the public, scheduling programs, creating lesson plans, filing documents, maintaining living collections, artifacts and supplies. May be required to lift and carry boxes and display materials necessary for educational programs.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
