Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. *Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver's license required

Operating Needs:

Ability to perform semiskilled, routine, repetitive maintenance, installation and repair activities on doors, door hardware, locks, hinges, door closures, handicap door operators, and other hardware using hand and power tools applicable to the trade; track time and materials and enter detailed summary of work performed using a computerized maintenance systems; ability to climb ladders and work from heights (ladders and aerial platforms); lift medium to heavy loads; ability and willingness to work overtime as requested (including campus emergencies or snow removal situations) required; Valid NYS Driver's License required.

This position may be filled from a re-employment list if one is in effect.

Duties Description Job Purpose: Perform routine/preventative maintenance on doors, door hardware, door operators, locks, hinges, and door closures in the Power Plant and/or Key Shop as well as assist with routine trouble and maintenance calls on the Campus including, but not limited to: Fire Alarm Activations, Elevator Entrapments, No Heat, Not Hot Water, No Cooling, No Power, Clogged Toilets, Pest Control/Removal, etc.
Tasks:
- Perform routine/preventive maintenance on doors, door hardware, locks, hinges and door closures
- Perform routine maintenance on handicap door operators
- Track time and materials as well as detailed description of work performed using a computerized maintenance system
- Lift medium to heavy loads
- Work off ladders to perform tasks
- Simple hardware repairs and maintenance
- Interact with students, faculty and staff on a daily basis in a professional and friendly manner.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- May be required to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
- Assisting co-workers as needed (See above for additional duties that require assistance)
