Duties Description Nature and Scope
DASNY provides financing and construction services to public and private universities, not-for-profit healthcare facilities and other institutions that serve the public good. DASNY is divided into five major sub-divisions: Executive Direction, Public Finance and Portfolio Monitoring, Construction Services, Counsel, Finance & Information Services. The Construction division provides design, engineering, procurement, and project management services to DASNY clients. DASNY manages all phases of construction and rehabilitation projects for public health care, higher education, and local and state government entities across the state, including contract administration and monitoring project budgets and schedules. Projects range in size from small renovations to major capital construction and support our clients' efforts to provide necessary services to all New Yorkers. As part of the Construction Services Division, services provided by the Code Compliance Unit include construction permitting services, plan review of fire alarm and sprinkler design, inspections of life safety systems and building components, construction code evaluations, and testing of life safety systems such as fire alarm and fire protection.
Primary Purpose
Serves in a temporary capacity as a DASNY student intern for the Construction Division/Code Compliance Unit (CCU) with a focus on assisting the Code Compliance Unit in the performance of various tasks and duties as outlined below. The internship will provide exposure to the fundamental principles of construction permitting, plan review, construction code compliance, building inspections, and system testing. Additionally, the internship will provide exposure to the fundamental principles of public contracting and financing of projects, legal issues with public contracting, general project management issues, as well as systems used to support project management and DASNY CCU. Student interns may also participate in educational opportunities designed to inform interns on DASNY business operations and other important business topics.
Essential Functions
Participate in construction site inspections.
Assist in the documentation of construction site field observations and associated reporting.
Distribute field reports prepared by others.
Record and log photographs of construction site deficiencies as identified by others.
Participate in meetings and assist in the documentation of meeting discussions.
Assist in tracking the status of plan review comments.
Assist in tracking the status of issued field reports.
Assist in tracking the status of issued Construction Permits and Temporary Approvals for Occupancy.
Assist in the coordination, planning, and scheduling of construction site visits and system acceptance testing.
Participate in obtaining documentation required for the issuance of construction permits.
Participate in obtaining documentation required for the issuance of Temporary Approvals for Occupancy [TAO] / Code Compliance Certificates [CCC].
Participate in the evaluation of construction code requirements.
Assisting in obtaining third-party progress inspection reports from Special Inspection Agencies and third-party electrical inspection agencies.
Participate in the development of the Code Compliance Certificate Requirements Memo for DASNY Permitted projects.
Print documents for plan review, construction perming, and TAO/CCC.
Filing and administrative tasks as needed.
Provide support to DASNY Code Compliance Unit Staff as needed.
Travel to DASNY construction sites, using public transportation, as required.
The ability to travel via public transportation to construction sites.
Requires exposure to the typical environments of active construction sites.
Undertake special assignments as directed.
Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination. (Standards can be found on the Intranet.)
Student interns are subject to and must comply with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and expectations for DASNY employees.
Physical/Mental/Visual Demands
Travel is required using public transportation or personal vehicle. Depending on assignment this travel may be to multiple sites in one day. May require exposure to weather and temperature extremes, loud noises, heights (climbing ladders, scaffolding, etc.) and other work-safety hazards of a construction site. May require time-pressure of decision-making.
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
