Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description The duties and responsibilities of this position will vary seasonally. The technician will conduct breeding waterfowl, woodcock, marsh bird, bald eagle, and alpine bird surveys and assist with waterfowl banding and bat hibernacula surveys. Other duties will include assisting with bear, deer, and moose management with responsibilities that will include resolving human-bear conflicts, collecting biological data on harvested deer and bear, collecting CWD samples, conducting deer yard surveys, and assisting with moose surveys and research. During the summer, the technician will work with our Hunter Education program staff and instructors to provide training for DEC summer camps and other classes in Region 5 and assist with program delivery.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.

Experience conducting wildlife surveys
