Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications • 10+ years of investigative experience in a major police department or law enforcement agency.
• Experience in supervising and conducting confidential, sensitive and internal investigations, including work in the areas of contracts and procurements, white collar crime and other complex frauds is required.
• Extensive experience coordinating investigations with federal and state agencies is an essential qualification for this position.
• Work– related familiarity with New York State laws and agencies is required.
• Significant experience in surveillance techniques and use of technical equipment used in law enforcement, including electronic video surveillance.
• Interviewing and interrogating experience in complex criminal and administrative investigations.
• Experience conducting large-scale, complex investigations by organized criminal enterprises preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and report writing skills
• Computer skills required include word processing and spreadsheet proficiency, and
in-depth experience with computerized case management systems.
• Proficiency with law enforcement and other investigatory search engines and websites.
• Must be willing and available to work unscheduled hours, as necessary.
• Some travel is required.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties Description Investigators in the Office of the New York State Inspector General conduct in-depth investigations and analysis of alleged criminal wrong-doing, corruption, conflicts of interest, fraud and abuse in New York State agencies/entities which fall under the jurisdiction of the Office of the New York State Inspector General. Investigators work collaboratively with attorneys, auditors and other investigators to investigate cases and prepare written reports and audits containing the Inspector General’s findings and recommendations. Investigations conducted by the Office of the New York State Inspector General’s uncover criminal conduct: these are often referred for prosecution to federal, state and local prosecutors. Office of the New York State Inspector General’s investigators, and particular senior investigator staff, work directly with these law enforcement offices to complete investigations and assist with criminal proceedings (arrests; grand jury presentations; etc.). Investigator duties include, but are not limited to: managing cases; overseeing surveillance; conducting interviews; preparing written reports; working as liaison with other enforcement agencies.
