Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14, the incumbent will operate heavy equipment for the Regional Maintenance crew and may perform journey-level work in multiple trades, such as carpentry, masonry, painting, and repairs as required to maintain, repair, and improve buildings, facilities, and equipment. Duties may include both skilled and semi-skilled tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards.

• Safely operate and maneuver various pieces of heavy equipment and CDL required vehicles across the region to meet project and operational requirements.
• Proficiently operate a diverse fleet of equipment, including but not limited to dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and trenchers.
• Perform skilled and semi-skilled trades work such as repairing, maintaining, or constructing structural components, fixtures, and equipment.
• Conduct inspections to diagnose issues and determine corrective actions.
• Use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the crafts that are assigned.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and codes.
• May perform medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks.
• Collaborate with other staff, contractors, and vendors to complete work efficiently.
• Complete work orders, track materials used, and document progress in maintenance systems.
• May supervise subordinate staff or assist with training.
• The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYS OPRHP management.

The incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a journey-level tradesperson

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in operation of heavy equipment under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle
to be operated.

*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

• Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***

***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
