Job Specifics

Duties Description The Recreation Therapist will plan and conduct activities for resident groups, working individually or as a member of a treatment team or treatment program. The incumbent will participate in Minimum Data Set (MDS), care plans, and complete initial resident assessments. They will continuously observe and document behavior changes in patients, as well as collaborate and assist other Recreation Therapists in all activity programs. The goal of each program is to bring about positive changes in a resident’s mental, physical and/or social behavior.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Veterans Home at Montrose employee with permanent, contingent-permanent or 55-b/c status as a Recreation Therapist (SG14)

Permanent Transfer: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 12 or above, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Recreation Therapist

Open Competitive NY HELPS qualifications:
Either 1. a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation;

or 2. a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education and one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency;

or 3. current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), 7 Elmwood Drive, New City, NY 10956. For further information you may contact them at (845) 639-1439 or at www.NCTRC.org

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience in developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents.

The above posted salary ($60,333 - $75,869) includes a downstate adjustment of $4,150.
