Job Specifics

Duties Description The Nursing Station Clerk 1 will be assigned to inpatient units where there is daily, continual contact with residents to perform an array of duties. The incumbent will screen communications by providing relevant information to appropriate personnel and directing visitors to the appropriate locations. They will ensure daily and routine lab slips are accurate with the necessary diagnosis codes and enter them into the database. The employee will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling resident appointments and clinician referrals along with the completion of necessary paperwork. They will prepare and maintain resident medical records, answer phones/take messages as necessary as well as order, pick up, and deliver supplies for units. The Nursing Station Clerk 1 will set up and process new admissions and re-admissions paperwork and answer call-bells promptly and transport residents as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Veterans Home at Batavia employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Nursing Station Clerk 1 or Nursing Station Clerk 1 Trainee.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 Nursing Station Clerk 1 (SG 7) or Nursing Station Clerk 1Trainee.

NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications:

Nursing Station Clerk Trainee: Six months of full-time clerical experience in a health care setting; or six months of full-time secretarial experience in a health care setting; or six months of full-time patient care experience in a health care setting.

Nursing Station Clerk 1: One year of full-time clerical experience in a health care setting; or one year of full-time secretarial experience in a health care setting; or one year of full-time patient care experience in a health care setting.

Additional Comments One contingent permanent, competitive full-time appointment or non-competitive full-time appointment via HELPS.
