Job Specifics
Duties Description These positions will report to the Saranac Inn Maintenance Center and be responsible for field and office supervision, administration, documentation and scheduling of staff and projects within the summer recreation and maintenance & technical services programs for the Ray Brook working circle. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, implementation and administration of the Ray Brook facilities, grounds and janitorial maintenance of facilities, snow removal, operation of light and heavy equipment (loaders, skid-steers, plows, etc.), infrastructure project planning, HVAC management, fleet management, water and wastewater systems, inventory control/documentation, ordering of supplies and materials, and procurement of services. Monitoring all activities related to the maintenance of facilities and property.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below:
Minimum qualifications for Provisional or NY HELPS appointment
Promotional: You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had 12 months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as a Construction Equipment Operator, General Mechanic, Trades Generalist, Labor Supervisor, Facility Operations Assistant 2, Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Assistant Mechanic, Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment), or Maintenance Assistant Parks.
OR
Open Competitive: Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance.
Candidates may also be eligible via the following:
Reassignment - Currently in title and an employee of DEC.
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis.
or
55-b/55-c Appointment: Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications above and include with their resume or application, copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Note: If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify under NY HELPS or 55-b/55-c cannot be considered.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
